T20 Women’s World Cup: Which Nation Will Rise To Glory?

After India’s recent success in the T20 Men’s World Cup, cricket fans are once again gearing up for another festival of sport with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Taking place in the UAE from October 3 – 20, ten teams will battle it out across twenty-three matches to stake their claim on the tournament. As ever, there are favourites and underdogs. The question is, though, which team will rise to the occasion? With that in mind, here’s a look at how the odds are shaping up and also some predictions for who the main contenders are likely to be.

Outright Winners Top Tip: Australia

It should come as little surprise that Australia currently sits as the market favourite to win the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Since 2009, there have been eight previous tournaments and Australia has featured heavily, winning six and placing as runners-up in the other two. Leading her nation is superstar Meg Lanning who is widely considered to be one of the greatest female players of the era. She will look to put Australia on the front foot with her aggressive batting style right from the first ball. Plus, with her teammates backing her up, we’re tipping Australia to defend their title.

Outright Winners Next Best Tip: India

India’s Women’s team will be looking to make it a double celebration for the nation, following the Men’s recent success at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Having made it to the final in 2020, narrowly losing out to Australia, they’ll be looking to take it one step further and claim their first-ever tournament victory. Given the strength of their overall squad, with Harmanpreet Kaur leading the line, we’re predicting they will have a highly successful tournament. Provided they’re able to produce their best form, India will be a serious challenge to the Australian favourites.

Outright Winners Outsider Tip: West Indies

Despite only featuring in one previous final since the tournament began, the Windies are the only other team besides England to have lifted the trophy. While that win came back in 2016, the team has a huge range of experience to draw from. Previous World Cup winner Hayley Matthews captains the side and will look to lead the team’s performance as the opening batter. Plus, two years after announcing her unexpected retirement, Deandra Dottin returns to the side. As the scorer of the fastest-ever century in Women’s T20 Cricket, there’s a lot to be excited about. While most bookmakers aren’t expecting the West Indies to pose any genuine threat, we think they could be one of the most exciting prospects to watch out for. Given their price in the betting market, we’re tipping them to have an outside chance.
